Can you tell us about yourself ? 

My name is Julien Raynaud, i am 31 years old and i am a self-taught painter from Marseille.
My works are inspired by what I experience and are full of sincerity, love and hope.

What does your studio look like ?

It’s a garage that i have transformed into a studio. It is my get-away, my refuge, I go there between 9 and 10 in the morning and I paint until the evening.

Why do you use Abstract ?

Sennelier has always been a reference for me. Don’t forget that they were the ones who invented oil pastels for Picasso and created tubes of paint for Nicolas de Stael… I love the intensity of the abstract colours, the quality of the pigments.

What is it that makes abstract different, in your opinion ?

Its packaging is really practical and makes it possible to paint directly from the tube. They’re really easy to carry around with me. I often push them to the limits and i have never been disappointed.

Three words that sum up Abstract for you ?

and Made in France.

You were able to test out the new Abstract ranges before the official launch (satin liner, mat, ink). Can you tell us how they inspired you ?

 Acrylics

Yes, that’s right. I had the honour of being the first to try them out.
It was really interesting to experi-ment with the satin of the original Abstract and the new Mat !

Abstract Matt

The Abstract Mat is fluid, which makes it easier to cover extensive areas or to use it in in a more specific, detailed way with a liner brush !
I used the mat black to add definition to colours in a painting with really great results! I couldn’t wait for this product to become available and it definitely meets my expectations !

Satin Finish Liner

Le liner satiné est très pratique, je m’en suis servi pour faire des tracés en volume ainsi que pour signer ma toile. Son utilisation peut être très variée.

Ink

Acrylic ink is a product that is really quickly going to become an essential part of my work. I sprayed it on with my airbrush, I used it to fill a refillable marker, I also used it with a brush and the result was perfect. The colours are intense and bright.

Abstract offers the same colour range across its different products, what do you think about this opportunity ?

I think it’s really great, it will offer us even more possibilities.
We will be able to use different products from the range without losing our bearings and will be able to mix them.  Use the same colours in different ways.
